In case anyone cares, I like M better.
I love the mentalness of AMG, but the M division has produced so many great cars over the years.

Recently, their cars have been better, but I don't think they have enough heritage to compete.

New cars, AMG all the way. According to the reviews the C63S is better than both the M3 and the ATS-V. If we are talking used though, M.

Really, it boils down to the 1M versus everything else for me. I mean the 1M is great, but then again, have you heard the AMG engines?
I’ll go AMG, I guess.
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:33 |

Neither.
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:34 |

I’m partial to the M
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:35 |

I can’t even wade into this because the only Audi RS models we get here are the RS5 and RS7.
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:38 |

I like loud angry cars. I’ll take the amg every time.
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:41 |

Since everyone and their mother is doing AWD performance now, I’ll stick with the originators.
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:44 |

My take on the whole Cadillac vs. Ze Germans thing is that Merc and BMW are so far from their original heritage that the whole argument is kind of moot at this point. People just have to look at them objectively; if you want a luxury car with sporting pretensions you’d buy either a C63 or M4, but if you want a RWD, manual performance car that’s pretty nice on the inside buy an ATS-V (which I would).
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:49 |

I'm speaking generally, so both new and used. But if just new, I'd take AMG.
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:49 |

I like where M came from but I like where AMG is going. AMG wins for me

I love Audis. I love the RS7.
Audi was not an option. The RS7 was not an option.

I know. I wish we got the RS4 and RS6.

Give in to the Dark Side
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:53 |

Depends on the car...if I want something like a compact sedan or coupe I’ll go with the M2 or M3...but if I’m looking for an overpowered luxobarge for cruising I would rather take an E63 wagon or S63.
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:53 |

hnnnnngggg
No
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:54 |

That's a good point, but I'm talking generally. That means it can either be whose car you like better or just which brand you like better.
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:55 |
|
Not arguing, but don’t you own an ///AMG?
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:56 |

THATS NOT AN OPTION!
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:56 |

Yessssssss
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:57 |

I'd take an ATS-V over a C63 and M3.
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:57 |
|
How did I know?
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:58 |

Depends on the vehicle. I generally prefer the M cars. I think the AMG bodywork is a too flashy for my tastes.
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:59 |
|
Frankly I don’t buy cars for their heritage, and I never understood people who do. Judge the car for what the car is.
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:59 |

AMG FTW.
![]() 11/08/2015 at 21:59 |

//M. To me, AMG cars always seemed overwrought. But both lines are so way out of my financial ballpark unless we’re talking 200k miles and a salvage title, so really IDC.

2011 M3 ZCP
![]() 11/08/2015 at 22:28 |

I chose to work for the brand that I do because I’ve worked on and driven most everything, excluding exotics, in the last 15 years. AMG make by far the most sense to me as far as a driver’s car goes, and serviceability, and reliability, and fit/finish, comfort. You name it, I like the AMG offering better than the competition.
Not trying to say that some M cars aren’t better in this area or that, but I wouldn’t want to live with one, just not for me.
The last great M cars were easily E46 M3, E39 M5 and 1M. Unfortunately they’ve cooled off to a pallid room temperature since. They’re cars just don’t have the edge they used to. Don’t even get me started on the F80.
![]() 11/08/2015 at 22:30 |
|
Weeeeeeel, then I pick AMG. Because batshit insane.
![]() 11/08/2015 at 22:31 |
|
I’m not a huge fan of current M cars (M2 looks sweeeet though) either, but I like M better because of how great their older models are. I respect your opinion thought, especially since you have much more experience with them than I do.
![]() 11/08/2015 at 22:39 |
|
Admittedly, the older M cars are better (though I would still own an AMG over one). They started switching around ‘03-’08 with the introduction of the supercharged 55’s and had fully secured dominion over the Bavarians with the introduction of the M156.

ZE COMPETITION PACKAGE?
![]() 11/08/2015 at 22:58 |
|
I’d take an ///M car over an AMG because the BMW is more fun to drive and more apt in twisties. Although I have heard that the new AMG C class has improved handling and competes nicely with the ///M.
Power is great but power without control...no bueno.
![]() 11/08/2015 at 23:00 |

I’d go in this order. The caddy is nice and is on par with all three entry level sport sedans w sport packages.
1) M3
2)ATS-V
3)M2
4)C63
![]() 11/08/2015 at 23:28 |

AMG, just because I love that whole German-muscle-car mentality. Gotta love them and Brabus.

![]() 11/08/2015 at 23:45 |

AMG because their engines sound mental with turbos on, which is something BMW can’t claim, and plus they’re making some fine-looking cars.
And if all else fails…
Big smoke.
![]() 11/08/2015 at 23:49 |

Try telling that to Harley riders. The only reason to buy a Harley is to buy into the “heritage”.

Here in ‘Murica, we don’t get dem Holdens cuz we got real sporty cars like Vettes.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 08:07 |

Ok...if I had to choose probably ///M, from a historical perspective there are more M cars that I would like to own than AMG.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 08:42 |

Amg. Love the exhaust sounds, and V12 option.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 08:53 |

The rear roofline is a killer for me. Not usable for anyone over 5”8” in the rear. Thats not to say that the M3 is all that much better but it is.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 09:27 |
|
Hm, I used to be M, I really liked the last generation of M cars (X5M, X6M, M3, etc) but the latest offerings are kind of meh to me. For now I am AMG.
![]() 11/09/2015 at 09:51 |

///M for the win. While AMG is insane, M is more focused on making everyday fun drivable cars where as AMG is more focused on being a track demon, while still being outright insane. That said, I'd take a MB over a BMW, but maybe not a AMG over an M
